We are in the midst of the twelve days of Christmas and so still in the Spirit here. I was reading a devotional today and something interesting came to mind.
St. Nicholas was born in what is now Turkey and served as a bishop there. The legend of gift giving, including dropping gifts down a chimney began with him. But there were also events in his life where he very much became connected to the sea, seafarers, and mariners. In time he became what is now, among other things, the patron Saint of sailors. So, not only did he give gifts to many, especially children, but was a blessing to those who made the sea their living.
This year has been quite an interesting one where Celtic Woman is concerned. Some years are more interesting than others. It was during a song that involved Lisa running off to Galway to enjoy the company of sailors that she embraced, literally, quite a number of fans at shows. Lisa has been a gift from the start but even more so this year and has fully taken on board a host of sailors, some now officers, in what we lovingly have called the Lisa Lambe Navy. The gift of song, a look, a wink, a wave, a salute, a hug, and just the presence makes her a bit akin to St. Nick. Now we won't go so far as to bestow sainthood on oh curly red, but the similarities in other forms are striking.
So, Lisa, to you the St. Nicholas of Celtic Woman, I raise a cheer for the many gifts you have given your fans, and for being our own personal patroness of the ever growing crew here and around the world. Our gift on this fifth day of Christmas. Salute and a hearty ho ho ho!
